Firm Overview

Mr. Hofler has had a trial and appellate practice for over thirty years in the state of North Carolina. His civil litigation cases have taken him into every trial and appellate division in all parts of the state, from Magistrate's Court through the Supreme Court. Mr. Hofler also handles a wide variety of federal civil trial cases, and federal appeals before the U.S.Court of Appeals. He have been admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court since 1979.

Mr. Hofler enjoys handling each part of each case himself. Hayes Hofler, P.A., selects its cases, identifying causes which are particularly meritorious. Mr. Hofler interviews the clients and witnesses; he does the legal research; he writes the briefs; he represents his clients in court and at mediation. Because of the size and complexity of many of the firm's cases, Mr. Hofler relies on an experienced professional staff. He confers and contracts with other trusted attorneys who are also profiled at this site. Each of attorney has his own separate practice, but they are located in the same building and work closely with each other. Daniel Hill and Connor Crook bring excellent academic credentials and independent judgment to bear on selected firm cases, and the firm is fortunate to have their counsel and help. Everyone at Hayes Hofler, P.A., is dedicated to relentlessly pursuing justice and fairness for our clients in the cases we select.

We utilize cost-effective methods to provide services in a timely, client-oriented manner. That means we return your phone calls promptly and we speak plainly and candidly. We don't want to waste our time or your money on cases that lack merit, and we are up front and ethical in our assessment of your case, and about our fees, so that there are simply no bad surprises for attorney or client. While we concentrate on trial and appellate work, a high percentage of our cases are settled through mediation or other alternative dispute resolution.

Mr. Hofler has worked in larger private practice firms during his thirty years of practicing law. He was a founding partner of a ten-lawyer civil litigation firm from 1979 to 1989, when he established this independent litigation and appellate firm.

A word about our professional malpractice cases: While this part of our practice pertains to all professions, we see more legal malpractice and medical malpractice cases than any others. Because these cases sometimes involve highly trained, well credentialed, and experienced individuals, we are very selective in accepting them. We look for flagrant malpractice resulting in catastrophic damage or injury, and turn down many, many more cases than we accept, However, you can be assured that if a case does meet our criteria, we will not shy away simply because of the reputation or credentials of the professional involved.

Mr. Hofler particularly enjoys his family court cases, and the clients, lawyers, and other professionals with whom he deals in those cases. He and his wife, Jill, a trained social worker, are volunteer Guardians Ad Litem, advocating for abused and neglected children on a gratis basis in Juvenile Court in Durham County.
